The Schedule
Ari's mom, Amy, found that having a schedule keeps the day somewhat normal. Although she didn't need to have this long of a school day, she felt that keeping the day more like a school day, Ari would benefit from it. In looking at what he is learning, I know he will be better prepared for 4th grade, that's for sure. Kids do better with structure. Whether your school day is three hours or more, a schedule may be beneficial to you and your family. The PE Jar
Keeping kids active during the day is important. It helps to keep them healthy and burn off energy. Amy found some activities that would get her children huffing and puffing, She wrote them down on a paper and added them to the jar. If you do something like this, let your child suggest activities to add to the jar too. The jar adds a touch of surprise and fun to the day. |

The Reward Chart
Amy found that a reward chart made her life easier too. Kids love rewards. For reward charts to work, though, it is important to involve kids in deciding on the rewards. Knowing that they can look forward to something special makes it easier to do the things they'd rather not do. Rewards can be simple and don't have to cost a dime, they just need to be something that the kids are willing to work for. |
